Last week we had 5 new and exciting App-Bike bikes installed throughout the estate and we’re so excited for you to give them a try!
But firstly, here’s a little insight into the back story of how App-Bike began…
Simon, the director of Active Cycling Projects Ltd and brains behind App-Bike was looking for a robust and easy to ride bike for his new bike hire system. Simon had heard about a charity, called the Krizevac Project, that had been given all of the postal bikes after the Royal Mail stopped delivering post by bike in 2012.
The Krizevac Project were able to refurbish the bikes and sell them on just as long as they weren’t red! For every bike sold the Krizevac Project would send a bike to Malawi to help develop and support communities out there. They decided to call their bikes Elephant Bikes. Simon and his team from Active Cycling Projects Ltd were happy to buy 150 of these bikes for their new venture App-Bike and were so pleased to help a good cause at the same time. The bikes have proved themselves to be reliable and easy to ride and can now be found at various locations along the south coast, including our Cider House Kitchen and Crouchers Hotel.
We’re so lucky to be surrounded by one of West Sussex’s areas of outstanding natural beauty here on the estate and there’s so many stunning locations around us that you can explore. From the Salterns Way cycle route, down to the sandy shores of West Wittering beach or even along the scenic Chichester Canal. Pack up a picnic and spend the day exploring with your other half, the kids or even by yourself!
You’ll find 3 App-Bikes outside our Cider House Kitchen and Cottages and 2 outside Crouchers Hotel and Potager Restaurant. But if you hire them, you can return them to either one of our hubs on the estate so this might differ!
If you don’t fancy packing up a picnic then why not head to our Cider House Kitchen for a slice of the action from Wednesday – Sunday and indulge in a delicious handmade pizza or bowl of fresh pasta. You can’t possibly explore all of the local area in one day so why not make a break of it and stay for a night, or two, or 7! Book yourself a countryside break in one of our stunning cottages and discover West Sussex in all of its beauty by car, foot or bike.
