“In wine, there is truth.” Pliny the Elder
When you go on holiday, one of the most enjoyable factors involved is being able to relax with a good book and a glass of quality wine. Far too many of us Brits believe that in order to get a really good quality wine you must head over to the continent but this simply isn’t true as some British wine is of incredibly high quality. The idea of a wine tour in Britain has never been more attractive, and it’s a holiday idea that more and more people are exploring.
Sussex really is the centre for British winemaking and Chichester hotels such as Crouchers are the perfect base from which to go on your own wine tour. In this blog we have made a list of three stops that you certainly won’t want to miss;
Ridgeview Wine Estate
Established in 1994 the Ridgeview Wine Estate has been making waves in the British wine industry ever since. The estate has won numerous awards including the Decanter World Wine Awards, and Best Sparkling (incl Champagne) 2010 against some of the biggest and most prestigious wine makers in the world. The Hairy Bikers themselves even stopped by the estate on their Food Tour of Britain and rated the wine so highly they even featured it in their recipe for Scallops and black pudding with sparkling wine.
Tinwood Estate
As well as a fabulous sparkling wine the Tinwood Estate also grow Pinot Noir grapes, one of the most sought after reds in the wine world. The finicky nature of Pinot Noir makes it an exceptionally hard and expensive wine to produce, but Tinwood really do have the expertise to deliver the goods. If you want a day in which your taste buds are taken on an adventure, then be sure to book your place on a tour of this incredible winery.
Bolney Wine Estate
With the Montagu Trophy for English and Welsh Wine of the Year 2011 under their belt it is fair to say that the team at the Bolney Wine Estate know what they are doing. With a wide variety of white, red, and rosé on offer you are sure to find a couple of new favourites on your tour of this incredible place.
So if we have piqued your interest in British wine then stop stalling and get yourself down (or indeed up) to Sussex in the near future. If you are looking for a picturesque place to stay whist you explore these wineries then don’t hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help.
